Student Matinees

“Theatre is a form of knowledge; it should and can also be a means of transforming society. Theatre can help us build our future, rather than just waiting for it.”

– Augusto Boal, Theatre of the Oppressed

Independent, intercultural, entertaining, and uncensored, Mosaic Theater Company of DC invites students into the realm of socially-relevant and transformational theatre with the hopes of inspiring, challenging, and empowering the next generation. Our education department strives to put the power of the future back into the hands of the students by flipping the narrative on what it means to attend the theatre. We strive to show students that theatre can be collaborative and communicative so that they may engage in meaningful dialogue, thoughtful introspection, and critical observation of the world in which we all live. We believe in the power theatre has to shape minds and change lives – and we do this through performance, discussion, engagement, and activation.

Performance – Tickets

We offer discounted tickets for your group at $10 per student if your group is over 10 people. If there is less than 10 people, tickets will be discounted at $20 per student.

Discussion – Post-Show Conversation

Following each matinee performance, a discussion involving the cast members and audience will take place. This is a good time for your students to ask the cast questions about the production and their lives as actors! This is optional and we require notification previous to your attendance of the matinee if your class will not be participating in the Post-Show Conversation.

Alternatively, if there is a large group of students attending the matinee, the Post-Show Conversation may be swapped for a Post-Show Workshop.

Engagement – Study Guides

Your students will have access to a comprehensive educational guide that will allow them to put the production into a worldly context. Study guides for previous productions are Mosaic can be found (here). If you do not see the study guide for the production you will be attending, please contact Hannah Grillot at

Activation – Workshop

An optional workshop is available for your class conducted by our Education Apprentice. This workshop can be facilitated in the classroom or at the theatre following the performance.
