South Africa Now: Township
Township - This is a term typically used to refer to an underdeveloped living area that was reserved for non-whites during Apartheid. However, even after Apartheid ended, many South Africans were still severely impoverished and continue to be to this day. Many do not have access to basic necessities such as electricity or running water. These townships are filled with small, one-room shacks. One such township exists just outside of the First National Bank Stadium in Soweto, where the 2010 FIFA World Cup was held.
