Maharat Ruth Balinsky Friedman is a member of the inaugural class of Yeshivat Maharat, which is the first institution to ordain Orthodox women as spiritual leaders and halakhic (legal) authorities. She and her husband Yoni moved to Washington, DC in July 2013 to begin her position as Maharat at Ohev Sholom - The National Synagogue. Maharat Ruth is deeply committed to working to ensure that Jewish communal structures provide sensitivity and support to individuals and couples struggling with fertility challenges, and she is honored to serve on The Red Stone Advisory Committee. She is a proud member of both the Chicago and Washington Boards of Rabbis, and sits on the Executive Committee of the board of the International Rabbinic Fellowship, of which she is also a member. Maharat Ruth is also a founding member of the Beltway VAAD. She and Yoni are the proud parents of their son Ezra.

John Bushman is a Board Member at the Washington Ethical Society. The Washington Ethical Society is a humanistic congregation that affirms the worth of every person.

Washington Ethical Society (WES) strives through its relationships to elicit the best in the human spirit. With faith in human goodness, WES appreciate each person’s unique capacities. WES joyfully celebrate together and support each other through life. WES nurtures a sense of reverence and responsibility for each other and the earth.

Mark Pattison, is the President of the Shepherd Park Citizens Association (SPCA).

The Shepherd Park Citizens Association is a membership organization servicing residents of Shepherd Park, Colonial Village and North Portal Estates. The association's mission is to improve the quality of life for Shepherd Park residents. SPCA holds regular membership meetings at which issues of local interest, such as the schools, public safety, property and the environment are discussed. SPCA also hosts candidate forums in advance of local elections. The SPCA sponsors many special local events, including an annual community picnic, yard sale, potluck dinner and garden tour, and a Halloween parade. To keep our neighbors informed, we maintain this website and publish a quarterly newsletter.
