Actor David Bryan Jackson Shares "Song For The Earth"

David Bryan Jackson, who plays John in Mosaic’s production of Birds of North America is an accomplished performer and songwriter. Inspired by the play, David revisited a song he wrote decades ago, entitled “Song For The Earth” and had this to share:

“I wrote this song some 40 years ago driving from the remote wilds of West Virginia down to the mills of the Ohio Valley. I was thinking about the damage we were doing to the land, the ease with which we slipped into denial and platitudes, the disconnect between those we should have been closest to, and much more. In 2014, my daughter Zoe Ravenwood recorded it for her album “The Problem Might Be Me” and I hadn't listened to it for some time, but I did tonight after rehearsal and it still seems alarmingly pertinent.”

A song about the damage done by humans to the earth and the effects of climate change, written by a father and recorded decades later by his daughter, seems a perfectly fitting anecdote for this little show.

Listen to the song here, and please consider purchasing the song or the entire album. Your support and contribution goes directly to David’s daughter, Zoe Ravenwood.
